Freeing Betty is all about simple choices. Each of us can play a simple but important role in freeing birds from cruel egg facilities, and ending the abuse of hundreds of millions of ‘meat’ chickens who suffer in filthy, overcrowded sheds each year.

Step 1

Vote with your wallet. If you disagree with the way birds are abused in the egg industry, the best thing you can do for chickens is to either obtain eggs from happy and healthy backyard chooks, or try one of the egg-substitutes available at supermarkets. Step 2

Most chicken products are factory farmed. Refuse to financially support this cruel system. Note that 'free-range' chickens are raised more humanely but are still slaughtered by the same method as factory-farmed birds. Delicious and cruelty-free vegetarian and 'mock meat' alternatives are available in supermarkets. By choosing them, you are lodging your vote for a kinder world!

Step 3

Factory farming will continue only so long as industry operators continue to hide the cruelty of their operations from consumers. Tell your friends and family what you have learned, and ask them to join you in refusing to financially support factory-farmed cruelty.

Step 4

Talk or write to your local supermarket manager or restaurant owner and ask them to take a stand against animal cruelty by refusing to stock / serve factory-farmed products.

Step 5
