RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said he hoped to see the offenders who scaled a fence and killed seven chickens at the Wilsonton campus of Toowoomba State High come to justice.
Toowoomba police are still investigating the incident, where seven chickens were found beaten to death on Monday afternoon at the high school’s agricultural centre.
Mr Beatty said animal cruelty carried a maximum penalty of a $100,000 fine or two years imprisonment, but doubted the offenders would receive anything close to that.
"One can hope, but I have never seen a magistrate hand down a penalty that big," he said.
